Coronavirus Child Protection Policy Addendum during temporary school closure
Clerkenwell CoE Primary School continue to update safeguarding procedures in line with ongoing guidance from the DfE. Our Keeping Children Safe in Education Child Protection Policy continues to apply to school procedures. The following guidance has been added with adaptations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the pupils in our care during temporary school closure due to Coronavirus.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We have a Child Protection Policy in place which is available to all parents and carers. You will find a copy on this website.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about pupils are discussed with parents first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
It may be helpful for parents to know that the Local Authority requires schools to report any obvious or suspected cases of child abuse which includes non-accidental injury, severe physical neglect, emotional abuse and/or sexual abuse. This procedure is intended to protect children at risk and schools are encouraged to take the attitude that where there are grounds for suspicion it is better to be safe than sorry. This does mean that we risk upsetting some parents by reporting a case, which on investigation proves unfounded. In such circumstances, it is hoped that parents, appreciating how difficult it is for staff to carry out this delicate responsibility, would accept that they were acting in what were believed to be the child’s best interests.
To promote a safe environment for pupils, our selection and recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers’ suitability, including Vetting and Barring Checks, as recommended by Islington Council and in accordance with current legislation.
